A Challenge … And a Drawing!

January 24th, 2010 by Karen

The other day, I was at my LYS Great Yarns! while the shop owner and staff were going through the shop listing items they were planning to bring to the Seattle Sewing Expo at the Puyallup Fairgrounds next month.

DSC03294 As they were going through the shop, a comment was made that the Flat Feet weren’t selling as well as regular Sock Yarn and that maybe we should come up with other items to make other than socks with Flat Feet.

As the resident Crocheter on staff, I took this challenge and after looking at the different colors we had in stock, I came up with a cool new design. It’s still in progress.. but will Launch at the Sewing Expo.

But I have a question for all of you out there…

What would you / have you crocheted

with Flat Feet?

If you would like to receive a free copy of this new pattern, Post a reply to this post with your answer to the above question.  I will continue to take responses until Friday, February 26, 2010.  I will draw the winner on Sunday, February 28, 2010.

December Project Recap

January 7th, 2010 by Karen

I thought I would share a picture of my projects in the month of December.

DSC03268  :)   Unfortunately I cannot share what the projects were.. but I thought you would like to see all the ends I wove in during the month…

What I CAN tell you is that I am supremely excited about all of them!

DONE DONE DONE!

January 3rd, 2010 by Karen

Finally…

I started these socks for my daughter in July.. and then with a book contract.. they went on hold until this last week.

But they are DONE!DSC03263 The yarn used is

Black Trillium Fibre Studio Roman Blue Sock yarn in the Colorway “Cassie”.  I had this yarn custom dyed for my daughter in her favorite brown an pink colors.

The pattern I used is

Sunday Swing Socks by Kristel Nyberg from the Summer 2009 issue of Knitty. The only difference I made in them was that I only did 2 repeats of the pattern instead of  5-7 of them so that they would be ankle socks rather than full length socks.

They Turned out pretty good don’t you think?

On the Needles…. FOR ME!!!

October 6th, 2009 by Karen

Im not sure if I have mentioned before that I am asthmatic.  If you know anything about asthma meds, you know that nebulized meds can be very messy.. and sometimes time consuming.

SInce that is the case, I decided that I would pic a project to work on while I am nebbing.  Currently I have 3 meds to neb back to back every 3-4 hours and that takes at least 30 minutes to do! UGH!  Since it is liquid.. and I dont want to get my current designs or any paper work that I am doing covered in the meds.. I picked out a new project!

DSC03097

The Yarn I picked out Is a Crystal Palace Ribbon called Trio – that was 50% off on clearance at a local yarn shop I just visited today! I am knitting a scarf in Garter Stitch for ME! :)

Another thing all asthmatics need in the winter months is a scarf that wraps the nose and mouth in cold weather. This helps with prevention of an Asthma attack.  I have been in dire need of a non-wool / animal fiber scarf for a very long time.  This yarn is 50/50 nylon and polyester, so I think if I make it long enough.. it will do the trick!  I have 110 yards and am using size 15 needles.

But what I love is the colorway.  It is 3-way striped – White down the center and then on either side it shades in all sorts of bright colors from pink to green to orange to blues and purples.  It will be bright.. and if I have to wear something covering my face… why not make it colorful?

Garter stitch scarves are fast and easy too. And A much needed no brainer these days as well. And as much as I have to neb these days… I will probably finish the scarf in 2 days!

SOCKS!

October 4th, 2009 by Karen

I have been wanting to post a picture of these for a while! :)

I crocheted these little socks on the Train on the way to Sock Summit this past August.  Each one took me less than 1/2 hour to make.

Sock Yarn is Red Heart Heart and Sole.

Scripture Afghan

September 2nd, 2009 by Karen

I am so happy that the school year is over. The kids are thrilled too. However, This year my son had his favorite teacher for the 2nd time in 3 years. First in the 4th Grade, then again for 6th Grade English, Reading and Spelling.

At the beginning of the school year, Mr. Hallett told us that this was his last year at the school. He was moving to Texas! All of us were grateful that our children were able to have him one last time, yet sad to see him leave.

Towards the end of the year, Tyler and I were talking and he asked if I would crochet something for Mr. Hallett to remember him by. After some discussion, we decided on the LA Scripture Afghan. (#2770) Tyler picked out the colors and I did some modifications. Instead of making several of each of the 24 7-inch squares, I decided to make one of each square and modify the pattern so that each square was 12 inches.

I think it turned out pretty well!

And here are Tyler and Mr. Hallet on the last day of school!

You can see the tears! :(
